The Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII conducted an assessment on the Kidapawan trail of Mt. Apo in coordination with the Local Government of Kidapawan, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), City Tourism Office and City Environment and Natural Resources Office last January 21-24, 2020 in Kidapawan City.

MGB 12 Geologists Vincent Gascal, Tristan Dela Cruz and Mining Engineer Dwight Arnold Macasaet Damali, together with personnel from the agencies, had a long trek to reach Mt. Apo peak. Along the trail, the MGB team noticed steep slopes that are prone to landslides that can cause artificial dams. Artificial dams cause by landslide can endanger community downstream.

Small scale miners in the municipality of T’boli successfully completed the 10-day skills training and enterprise development initiated by the local government of T’boli in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO). Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII OIC-Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad Jr. attended the January 8, 2020 closing program held in Teodoro’s Farm, Barangay Edwards, Tboli South Cotabato.

RD Gacad resonated the mandates of MGB-12 and encouraged the participants to use responsibly what they learned in making accessories and jewelries infusing the town’s mineral resources with T’nalak fiber. He assured that MGB-12 will support the municipality in promoting a responsible small-scale mining industry.

In support to the proposal to declare Asik-Asik Falls as a national geological monument, personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII, led by MGB 12 OIC Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad Jr., visited the wondrous site at Alamada, North Cotabato on December 11, 2019.

OIC RD Gacad and the team ventured on the winding stairs that descends and ascends around the mountain side of the area. A portion of the falls can be seen from afar and only after the team descended that they encountered the majestic falls and its lush greenery that covers the entire landscape.

The City Government of Koronadal lauded MGB XII on its creativity in conceptualizing a mining tunnel for the 2019 Paskuhan Village activities with this year’s theme “Sa Bagong Koronadal, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko” from December 3-7, 2019 at the Regional Center, Barangay Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City.

A special award was given to MGB XII as “the most creative agency” as judges and spectators experienced a tunnel-like activity on its façade grounds. OIC RD Felizardo A. Gacad Jr. praised the team efforts led by Jeffrey C. Padilla in transforming a surreal plan into an outstanding output of constructing a mining tunnel. Former MGB 12 RD Constancio A. Paye Jr. came on the first day of the event in support of the agency’s activity.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII participated in the 66th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) with the theme “66 Years of Responsible Mining: Culture. Care. Change” spearheaded by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA), in coordination with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, on November 19-22, 2019 at the CAP-John Hay Trade and Culture Center in Baguio City.

On the first day, MGB 12 Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad, Jr. presented inputs on Mine Responsibility which was launched earlier in November 8 as a campaign to educate the public on the importance of mining and how DENR-MGB ensures that only mining companies that practice responsible mining are allowed to operate.
