MGB XII CONDUCTS REGIONAL CONSULTATION AND RE-ORIENTATION ON SSM LAW
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII conducts regional consultation and re-orientation seminar on small-scale mining law, its rules and regulations and related laws at Fred An’s Food Haus in Koronadal City. The seminar was participated by representatives of Provincial/City Mining Regulatory Boards (P/CMRBs) of the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sarangani and city of General Santos; staff of the the office of provincial environment and management within the region; chairperson of the committee on environment of Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Panlungsod and applicants of Minahang Bayan or the People’s Small-Scale Mining Area. The seminar aims to raise continuous awareness among miners and leaders with regard to Republic Act (R.A.) No. 7076. RA 7076 is the law governing small-scale mining established in Executive Order No. 79 (EO 79), the reforms instituted on mining sector issued by former President Benigno Aquino, Jr. on July 2012.
The one-day seminar on October 13, 2016 also aimed to solicit comments from the participants on the prevailing issues and suggestions to improve the implementation of the small-scale mining law.
Regional Director Constancio A. Paye, Jr. in his message very much appreciated the cooperation and attendance of the sixty (60) participants in the seminar. He informed of the higher standard enforced by the department on mining laws and stressed that social acceptance to any mining project is imperative to attain effective partnership to the public and success of the project.
The proposals raised by the participants such as additional members be included in the Board and fees on the application on small-scale mining be collected and paid to the local government will be incorporated to the report for consideration of the policy making body of the department, he said.
MGB XII GOES TO KIAMBA FOR TEAM BUILDING
With the increase of manpower of the organization, goal to improve performance of employees and address agency issues, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII conducted a two (2)-day seminar on Gender Sensitivity, Values Formation and Team Building at Princess del Leonor Hotel Resort and Convention Center at Brgy. Kayupo, Kiamba, Sarangani.
Regional Director Constancio A. Paye told in his message to the forty-seven (47) participants that the training is an opportunity of getting to know each other a little better. Our organizational matters could be resolved if we would learn to appreciate and understand the styles, needs and interests of our colleagues, he said.
The 2-day training on October 7 to 9 was devoted to group activities on the personality type one has towards work, formation and enhancement of values, understanding gender bias statements and stories of experiences. Mr. Lowie R. Selario, a seasoned lecturer on values education based in Tagum City is the resource speaker for the entire duration of the seminar. He even shared amusing stories and personal struggles that led the participants to burst into laughter and shed their tears.
Mr. Selario emphasized to the participants that that change of attitude towards work and treatment on colleagues can only come from one self. Even how much proddings is done by people around us, it is only you yourself that can do the change.
Overall, the participants appreciate the learnings in the seminar. Most of them said that they are lucky to have joined the seminar. Some said they hope for a similar seminar in the future. Everyone goes home relieved, enlightened and eager to apply the great learnings to their respective workplace.
ORIENTATION OF MGB XII EMPLOYEES CONDUCTED
With the rationalization plan of the government and the subsequent filling up of vacant positions in the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII, the office initiated the general orientation to all employees of the bureau.
Lilia A. Acosta, chief of the finance and administrative division led the orientation on September 1, 2016 at the Conference Hall of MGB XII. The history of the office, mission, civil service laws and office rules and regulations among others, were presented in the orientation. The goal is to ensure that new employees feel welcomed to the organization and allow them to begin their careers with knowledge of the office regulations and mission. This also serve as a refresher for the old employees of the region. The lecture ends with an open forum where most of the queries are about retirement policies.
NEW SET OF OFFICERS OF MGBEA XII TOOK THEIR OATH OF OFFICE
A new set of officers of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association Region XII (MGBEA XII) chapter took their oath of office on August 18, 2016 at the Conference Hall of MGB XII. Mike P. Diamel, the new elected president replaced former president Rolando A. Mendoza by 12 votes in a secret balloting conducted on June 23, 2016. The duly elected officials to serve for two (2)-year term 2016-2018 are the following:
GEOLOGISTS DISPATCHED TO INVESTIGATE SINKHOLE AT POLOMOLOK, SOUTH COTABATO
Geologists of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII were dispatched to investigate the occurrence of sinkhole at Purok Honeyville, Brgy. Silway 8, Polomolok, South Cotabato. This is the office’ immediate response on the reported incident on July 28 by Polomolok Municipal Risk Reduction Management (MDRRM) officer-designate Mr. Jonathan Fabulare. The MGB is the implementing agency of one of the priority programs of the DENR called geohazard assessment and mapping program that identify areas susceptible or vulnerable to various kinds of geohazards like landslides, flooding and sinkhole or ground subsidence.
