The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII, through Gender and Development (GAD) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employee’s Association (MGBEA), concluded this year’s Women’s Month celebration at Sitio Maupot Family Resort, Magpet, North Cotabato on March 23-24, 2018. Ms. Nancy A. Adalin, Ms. Janet T. Monteverde and Mr. Oscar S. Manaay were the resource persons from the City of Koronadal POPCOM office who conducted the Gender Sensitivity Training (GST), KAlalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa PAmilya (KATROPA) and Team Building Activity to officers and employees of MGB XII.

March 12, 2018, Koronadal City. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII recently released a threat advisory to the local officials of South Cotabato on the risk of landslide in Brgy. Ned, Lake Sebu. This was the result of the assessment during the conduct of geohazard inspection of MGB XII together with the MDRRMO-Lake Sebu and PDRRMO South Cotabato in selected schools and sitios of Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu on March 1 and 2.

Three school buildings in Brgy. Ned were observed to have tension cracks and ground displacement which are indicative of a developing landslide. The Seven Lakes Elementary School in Sitio Seven Lake, Abboy Elementary School in Sitio Abboy and Tuburan Elementary School in Sitio Tuburan have been pointed out by Ariel Austin Acosta, Supervising Geologist of MGB XII to possess conditions which are conducive to the inception of landslide. He had observed that there is continuous mass movement in the area and further displacement of about two (2) meters on the ground. His findings was based on the previous VRA assessment on the same area two years ago. Likewise, several residential dwellings in Sitio Tuburan and the road connecting El Dulog-Tawang Dagat-Tuburan were found to be directly affected by tension cracks and a road slumped respectively. Acosta in his interview with Brigada News in Koronadal City disclosed that Brgy. Ned is in an unstable condition and highly recommends relocation of the campuses and residents to a much safer area.

Koronadal City, February 20, 2018. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII meets with the mining companies of the region on February 20, 2018 to discuss plans for the progressive rehabilitation of the disturbed areas of their respective operations. This is in compliance to the memorandum of the MGB Director to collate record of the disturbed area of mining companies nationwide with the corresponding schedule of the rehabilitation activities.

Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), TMC-Tribal Mining Corporation (TMC) and Kiamba Mining Company (KMC) represented by Jomar L. Bravo, Geronimo L. Sequito, and Junito P. Gelbolingo respectively presented their plans on progressive rehabilitation. Efren B. Carido, OIC-Office of the Regional Director (OIC-ORD) directed the mining companies to submit their timetables and plans to rehabilitate disturbed areas to include the drone photos which shall serve as baseline data for endorsement to the MGB central office. Currently, there is no production mining operation in the region, the status of SMI and TMC are in development stage while Kimba Mining Corp. is at the exploration stage.

Koronadal City, February 19, 2018. As part of the Mines and Geosciences Bureaus (MGBs) commitment to the call of the DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu to strengthen the enforcement of mining and environmental laws in the community and provincial level, the MGB regional offices will deploy the newly hired contract of service (COS) personnel who are either mining engineers, geologists, metallurgical or environmental science graduates to be embedded in the CENROs and PENROs of the DENR.

The Secretary on his goal to intensify the protection of the environment initially hired lawyers to assist the CENROs and PENROs nationwide on their added task. CENROs have been directly involved with the communities in the conservation and development of the DENR projects, processing of ENR licenses/ permits/ titles and now with the enforcement of environmental and mining laws on the ground. The MGB as part of its commitment to the priority programs of the DENR Secretary hired and deployed COS technical personnel who will serve as focal persons of the bureau on mining and geological concerns in the community and provincial offices of the DENR. The public will generally benefit from this personnel movement as they have easy access to the bureau’s frontline services to sustain efforts towards responsible mining and disaster-resilient communities.

The Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Roy A. Cimatu administers the turn over ceremony of the new Regional Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XII at the DENR XII Compound, Koronadal City on January 13, 2018. Regional Director Nilo B. Tamoria, the new DENR XII RD from Rizal Province formally accepted the assignment in a symbolic rite administered by Secretary Cimatu. Tamoria replaced Reynulfo B. Juan who will be reassigned at DENR Region 1, Ilocos Region.

DENR XII Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for Operations Didaw B. Piang-Brahim introduced RD Tamoria as an innovative leader, strategist, output oriented, workaholic, and with unquestionable intelligence and competence. His expertise and knowledge in handling and leading the government affairs were highlighted by his previous assignments as supervising staff of Senators Tanada and Michael Defensor, Project Evaluation Officer at the Office of the President, Consultant of HUDCC, Director for Operations of NACETF, Director IV of Special Concerns Office of the DENR, DENR RED at Regions 4A and NCR, Director IV of Office of the Secretary of the DENR and recently as Director of Special Affairs Office of the DENR.

Officials who came to Koronadal City to witness the ceremony were Ernesto D. Adobo, Jr., Undersecretary for Administration, Finance, Human Resource, Information Systems, Legal, Legislative Affairs and Anti-Corruption; Mario F. Chan, Head Executive Assistant; MGB Assistant Director Danilo U. Uykieng, Rolando R. Castro, Director of Human Resource Development Service; MGB and EMB Region XII Directors, Director Datu Tungko M. Saikol, PENROs and CENROs of Region XII, and DENR XII rank and file employees. Tamora is 14th regional director of the DENR XII.
