Eight women from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII join Women’s Congress at Tropicana Beach Resort, Brgy. Tambler, General Santos City hosted by the Provincial Government of South Cotabato on March 17-18, 2016.

Annabelle B. Gonzales, Mary Ann C. Tenorio, Marilyn D. Dicierto, Norjanah S. Solaiman, Tess A. Macabuat, Dimple T. Macagba, Louise Marie D. Dacut and Brenda D. Duplito took part of the event that was attended by more than five hundred women throughout the province.

March is celebrated as women’s month to recognize the contribution of women in the community and society in general. “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda” as the year’s theme resonates the call for gender equality in leadership and decision making positions in both public and private sector; inclusion of women’s concerns in leadership platforms and the government’s development agenda; and capacitating and preparing women and girls to reach their ambitions.

Women empowerment is a continuing advocacy of the government to ensure that every policy and program should support the needs and aspirations of women and girls and should focus on expanding the opportunities of women under the thrust of advancing and protecting human rights, promoting women’s economic empowerment and promoting gender-responsive governance.

Guest speakers in the congress were Leila M. de Lima, a former Secretary of the Department of Justice and an advocate of human rights and Shalani Soledad Romulo, the other half of senatorial candidate Roman T. Romulo, a former Pasig congressman.
