The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII conducted various activities in observance of the 18-Day Campaign on Violence Against Women (VAW) with a theme “Filipino Marespeto; Safe Spaces, Kasali Tayo” highlighting the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313 or SSA) among the public as well as the organizations tasked with enforcing the law.

On November 25, the Gender and Development (GAD) focal of MGB XII, Ermelyn Jane P. Celindro, facilitated the launching of the “Let’s Make this a Safe Space” with the hashtag #SanaAllSpacesSafe ground campaign. All MGB XII personnel committed to make all spaces especially on their workplaces a safe place in all gender-based related violence through a pledge provided by the Philippine Commission for Women (PCW).

MGB XII displayed the 18-Day Campaign on VAW tarpaulin and orange flaglets at the façade of the bureau’s office. Orange flags and banners are used to attract the public’s attention on the issue of violence against women.

The film viewing was followed by a seminar that aims to explain and discuss the highlights of the film and the insights of the viewers. Ms. Ann Angala, a women empowerment advocate, facilitated the discussion. She described Tension Building, Incident, Reconciliation and Calm as the cycle of violence on a battered wife syndrome. She encouraged the participants to know and fight for their rights.

MGB XII supports the anti-VAW advocacy to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. The Bureau aims to foster a community that has zero tolerance on all types of violence and upholds commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence.

MGB XII participants took a pose during the Gender Sensitivity Training via Zoom application.
