The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII Regional Director Engr. Efren B. Carido, chairman of the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB), presided the meeting in the Province of Cotabato on August 5, 2021 via online Zoom platform.
The agenda of the meeting highlights results and evaluation of three (3) Quarry Permit Application for Mountain Mix, Earthfill and Limestone and seven (7) Commercial Sand and Gravel (CSAG) permit applications in the province. An update on the CSAG complaint in the municipality of Matalam and the alleged illegal SAG extraction at Marbel River, Barangay Ilian Riverside, Matalam, Cotabato was discussed. The PMRB members also tackled permit holders with expired permits, database of existing permit holders, and inventory of mineral processing plants.
PMRB is a multisectoral body that is primarily tasked to accept, process and evaluate permit applications for sand, gravel, guano and quarry resources pursuant to the rules and regulations under the Republic Act No. 7942, the "Philippine Mining Act of 1995 " and pertinent local provincial/ highly urbanized city ordinances. It is also mandated to implement the small-scale mining law under Republic Act No. 7076, the People's Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991". The PMRB is chaired by the MGB Regional Director or his/her duly authorized representative with its members composed of Provincial Governor/City Mayor or his/her representative as Vice-Chair, small-scale mining representative, large-scale mining representative and Department-duly accredited environmental Nongovernmental/Organization representative.
Amid the on-going changes on restrictions implemented due to safety measures against COVID-19 pandemic, MGB XII continuously provides unhampered government services through innovative means such as using digital platforms for meetings on the policy updates and plan for actions on issues that needs to be addressed by the office.
