Officials and employees of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII voluntarily raised funds and donated clothing to extend assistance for the displaced families in Tantangan and Norala, South Cotabato.

Communities in low-lying areas near major rivers in Tantangan and Norala were swept with heavy rains and floodwaters. The disaster left more than 300 families in evacuation centers.

On June 19, 2021, MGB XII donated basic commodities that include kitchen utensils, canned goods, noodles, comforters, and unused clothing. Prior to the distribution, MGB XII coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) to assess the needs of the families affected.

Barangay New Iloilo officials Jocelyn Agullana, Gonde Sadiang-Abay, Roque Tabano and Contact Tracer Ian Salye and MDRRMO Rescue Responder Kenneth Aritalla in Norala received the donation.

MGB XII Geohazard maps are useful in times of disasters. These geohazard maps identify specific areas that are prone to landslide, flooding as well as areas that may be used as evacuation and relocation sites. MGB XII also issues Geohazard Advisories based on DOST-PAGASA weather forecasts. The advisories recommend preemptive evacuation of residents in areas with high susceptibility to landslides and flooding.

The reach out activity is an initiative that may inspire other government offices to extend help for the affected families. In our simple ways, a beacon of hope can be lighted.
