In line with its thrust and commitment to environmental sustainability and climate change advocacy, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII launched activities in celebration of the 2021 Earth Month.

A tutorial video on Bamboo Propagation was released through MGB XII social media on April 22, 2021 as part of the Earth Day Celebration with the theme “Restore the Earth.” Engr. Abdulhamid Ali of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division explained the steps in planting a Rhizome, Culm, Branches, the vegetative method in Bamboo Propagation. Bamboo helps in mitigating effects of climate change.

 On April 26, 2021, a Coastal Clean-Up and Mangrove Tree planting will be conducted by MGB XII in Barangay Tinoto, Maasim, Sarangani together with personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). Mangrove forests are barriers that protect coastal communities from destructive storm surges or tidal currents brought by typhoons. The coastal clean-up is an annual commitment of MGB XII on coastal rehabilitation.

A total of 150 participants are expected to join MGB XII’s webinar on Climate Change Mitigations in the Mineral Resources Development Sector via Zoom platform on April 29, 2021. The webinar will be graced by two prominent resource speakers. DENR- Undersecretary for Climate Change and Mining Concerns, Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh will discuss Climate Change and its impact to the environmental sector while MGB XI Regional Director Atty. Jasper Alberto H. Lascano, EnP, will tackle the climate change response and mitigation programs of the mineral resources development sector.
