The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII launched various activities in line with the 2021 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) with the theme “Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!” from March 1-30, 2021 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
On March 8, 2021, MGB XII kicked off the NWMC live on line with a total of seventy (70) personnel joining the activity that included the showing of the NWMC video primer, NWMC-related trivia questions and “bring me” game, and capped with the search for MGB XII’s Wonder Juana and Super Juan. “It is no longer only about women empowerment. We know that women are empowered and we, as men, should enable and assist them to bring out their strengths,” emphasized MGB XII Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad, Jr. He also reiterated that extraordinary times need extraordinary sacrifice in performing continuous government service.
MGB XII also initiated the Mobile Pop-Up coffee bar for hospital staff in Allah Valley Medical Specialists Inc. and Dr. Arturo P. Pingoy Medical Center. Uniformed personnel in checkpoints located in Barangay Saravia, Megaland Carpenter Hill, and Bo. 6 Banga boundary were served with early morning hot coffee and donuts while the women frontliners were given a chance to win NWMC freebies like alcohol sprayers, face masks, foldable fans and bag tags.
The culmination for MGB XII’s Women’s Month Celebration was conducted on March 29, 2021 with the whole day devoted to a morning Zumba, Pinoy Henyo MGB XII Edition and the launching of “Bida si Juana Sa Panahon ng Pandemya” Women Empowerment Video. Aiza A. Lopez, Engr. III of the Mine Management Division and Maimona A. Mamao, Senior Science Research Specialist of the Mine Safety Environment and Social Development Division, were featured. Prizes that included Anti-Covid Kit (a box of face mask, alcohol and liquid handwash), Lysol and GAD kit (face mask, alcohol sprayer, foldable fan, bag tag) were given to the winners of the NWMC Kick-off celebration.
MGB XII Wonder Juana, Ms. Erlinda R. Garcia and the Super Juans, Kier Q. Castillanes and Jamael D. Mackno, were voted by MGB XII personnel to recognize them as the epitome of strength and dedication.
Lastly, the March 31 forum entitled “Corona ni Juana: Angat ka!” will feature empowered women in Region XII to highlight women who lead in the campaign for and exemplify women empowerment and gender equality. The forum will showcase inspirational stories and messages from women who managed to lead and thrive in the on-going fight against the pandemic.
