The Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII conducted a site inspection on the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) of Tribal Mining Corporation (TMC) on February 3-5, 2021 in T’boli, South Cotabato.

Lopez of Mine Management Division (MMD) and Geologist Tristan E. Dela Cruz of the Geosciences Division.

Tribal Mining Corporation has four (4) Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs). A tailings storage facility (TSF) is built for the purposes of storing waste materials such as ground rock, sand and silt and water from the milling process.

To improve management of the TSFs, MGB XII recommended that TMC conduct a hazard identification, risk assessment, and establish an Emergency Preparedness and Response Program (EPRP) for identified potential emergencies.

The inspection was in line with the order of MGB Director, Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano to conduct hazard/risk assessment and monitoring devices inventory of all open pits and tailings storage facilities, whether active, inactive and/or abandoned.

A team of MGB XII technical personnel was deployed to TMC to conduct hazard/risk assessment to its Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF).
