The Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII conducted an investigation on the seized illegal mining activity in Barangay Obial, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat last February 3-4, 2021.

Engr. John Mikel P. Ansao, OIC-Mine Management Division of MGB XII, Engr. Wynlove Galagaran and Atty. Mary Charlen Joy P. Suedad coordinated with DENR XII Enforcement Division representative For. Sihawe A. Dalidig, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) representative For. Mando Maguid in Kalamansig, Municipal ENRO Samuel G. Repollo and representatives of BLGU Obial.

On site of the illegal Mineral Processing Plant are abandoned mining pits and scraps of tools and equipment. The illegal mining activity was apprehended by CENRO Kalamansig together with the Municipal Police Officers. The illegally sourced mineral products, tools, conveyances and some equipment were in the possession of CENRO Kalamansig for safe keeping. In line with MGB MC No. 2018-01 or Guidelines in the Conduct of Apprehension, Seizure, Confiscation and Disposition of Illegally Sourced Minerals/ Mineral Products and By-Products, Tools, Conveyances and Equipment Used, MGB XII created an apprehension team for the legal confiscation of the used mining tools and equipment.

The residents said that since the apprehension of illegal mining activity in the area, no operation was conducted by the perpetrators. To lessen the incident of illegal mining activities, MGB XII thoroughly explained to the community the steps in acquiring a permit/contract for small scall mining activities.

Furthermore, MGB XII reiterated that the illegal activity done in Barangay Obial violated Republic Act (RA) 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), as well as RA 7076 or the Peoples Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991.
