Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII key officials led by OIC, Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad, Jr. convened in a management meeting on January 6, 2021 and discussed its CY2020 performance and directions for the new year.
Designated planning officer Engr. Ralph John Ligas presented the 2020 Accomplishment of MGB XII and reported that all targets were fully accomplished except for some demand driven activities where stakeholders were unable to submit compliance requirements due to restrictions imposed by the national and local governments. MGB XII had a BUR1 of 100% and a BUR2 of 99.96%. Accordingly, all the required Means of Verification (MOV) are readily available.
Lilia A. Acosta, Chief Administrative Officer reported on the Status of Early Procurement, Collection, Status of Accounts Payable, and Financial Performance while Engr. John Mikel P. Ansao, OIC-Mine Management Division (MMD) discussed the breakthroughs in convening the Provincial/City Mining Regulatory Boards (P/CMRB) despite the pandemic.
Maimona A. Mamao, Senior Science Research Specialist and OIC-Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD) presented information on the non-compliance of permit holders on Safety, Health, Environment and Social (SHES) requirements. She added that a technical conference is scheduled this January to discuss the matter with the concerned mining companies. Supervising Geologist OIC-Geosciences Division (GD) Melvin C. Sebua presented the GD accomplishments for CY2020. OIC RD Gacad praised the initiatives of the division particularly in providing timely and relevant advisories to some LGUs who have expressed gratitude for the assistance extended by MGB XII.
OIC RD Gacad lauded the Geosciences Division for ranking 1st in the CY2019 performance out of all the fifteen (15) MGB Regional Offices and commended the efforts made by the GD personnel. Furthermore, he reminded everyone to always remember the safety protocols such as wearing of face masks, social distancing, frequent hand washing and disinfection.
CY2021 major directions will focus on enforcement of mining and environmental laws and quadrangle mapping to identify and determine the geologic potential of some areas in Sarangani, General Santos City and Sultan Kudarat. The geohazard mapping and vulnerability and risk assessment of all 50 cities/municipalities in SOCCSKSARGEN has already been completed in CY2020.
