The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII celebrated the 122nd Founding Anniversary of the MGB along with the National Climate Change Consciousness Week Celebration with the theme, “Adapting for a Sustainable Future.”

As part of the "Mining Month," the plantitos and plantitas of MGB XII filled the urban garden of OneMGB12 with ornamental plants on November 13, 2020. The OneMGB12 urban garden was launched at the office building rooftop last June 2020 wherein MGB XII personnel planted vegetable seeds. The employees had been harvesting vegetables that include spinach, squash, pechay, okra and radish.

 On November 20, 2020, MGB XII led by Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad, Jr. conducted a tree planting activity in the Survival Garden located in Sitio Salway, Barangay Tablu, Tampakan, South Cotabato. A total of 53 assorted species of Cherry Blossom Trees and Duguan (Myristica philippensis) Trees were planted by MGB XII personnel. The MGB XII team was assisted by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Eileen Estrada.

The Tampakan Survival Garden is being developed as the town’s agri-tourism site. Aside from various trees planted, vegetables and other crops are grown to ensure sufficient supply of food for the community. Members of the B’laan tribe were tapped to maintain and assist the farming activities in the area.

Meanwhile, MGB is one of the line bureaus of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It was created during the Philippine Revolutionary Republic under the regime of President Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo who signed a decree on November 29, 1988 creating the four (4) divisions of Departamento de Formento. The Mines Section and the Mountains Sections were formed under the Director of Industry and Agriculture, and the Director of Publicas, respectively. || EJCelindro/MGB.
