The Geohazards and Engineering Geology Section (GhEGS) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII conducted a reassessment of geohazard data of the 19 barangays in the municipality of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato last October 19 to 31, 2020.

Landslides and flooding in some areas in Region XII are triggered due to the rainy season. Geohazard maps are useful for disaster preparedness and management planning. The specialized maps indicate areas susceptible to rain-induced landslides and flooding.

Local Government Units (LGUs) are encouraged to use the updated geohazard maps in the development of areas and in determining if these are safe for habitation. The maps can be utilized in planning evacuation routes, forced evacuation areas and safe resettlement sites.

The assessment results and the updated printed geohazard maps of the 19 barangays will be presented to the LGU’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Barangay Captains/Officials concerned.
