A total number of twenty- eight (28) personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII completed the 2-days Occupational Standard First Aid Training on October 6-7 and October 15-16, 2020 in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross South Cotabato Chapter at the MGB XII Conference Room, Koronadal City.

The participants included current members of the MGB XII Emergency Response Team divided into task groups led by the Incident Commander, the Regional Director, in accordance to MGB XII’s Integrated Management System.

The first part of the training included lectures on the health hazards, foreign-body airway obstructions, and the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), an equipment that prompts rescuers on actions to be done on a pulseless victim. The trainers also presented basic first-aid treatments for bleeding, burns, close and open wounds, head and spine injuries, fainting and heat-related emergencies.

Bandaging and Life Support techniques were demonstrated apart from the discussions and hands-on activity on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

The highlight of the activity was the individual demonstration of MGB XII personnel in providing first aid CPR to an adult, child, and infant. The participants were evaluated based on the proper procedure taught during the training on handling a lifeless victim.

The Philippine Red Cross Trainers reminded the participants that a first aid rescuer does not diagnose a patient’s sickness. They also emphasized the importance of assessment before the management procedure. The activity aimed to update and refresh MGB XII personnel in First Aid.
