The Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII conducted various activities in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month 2020 with the theme “Protect Nature, Sustain Future” last June 22 until June 26 at the MGB XII premises in the Prime Regional Center, City of Koronadal.

One of the main activities is the OneMGB12 Urban Gardening launched at the rooftop of the office building. Recycled 1.5-liter PET bottles were improvised as pots and gardening tools. Online trivia and poster making contests were also conducted with submitted entries posted in the MGB XII social media accounts.

 On June 25, MGB XII Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad, Jr. led the commemoration of the Philippine Arbor Day by planting 10 caballero seedlings and 32 bamboo cuttings in the Prime Regional Center Hilltop. “What we did was not just the commemoration of the Philippine Arbor Day but also a tribute to the future. Our effort to have this kind of activity will sprout hope for our future generations,” RD Gacad said during the culmination program.

The MGB XII Philippine Environment Month events were undertaken with careful and strict observance of the new normal health and safety protocols. These activities included Dart, Table Tennis, Larong Lahi, 4x50meter Track and Field relay, Zumba Competition and Bike-arade cum IEC materials distribution. Proclamation No. 237 of April 4, 1988 declared the month of June every year as Philippine Environment Month.
