SECRETARY CIMATU ADMINISTERS TURN OVER CEREMONY IN DENR XII

The Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Roy A. Cimatu administers the turn over ceremony of the new Regional Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XII at the DENR XII Compound, Koronadal City on January 13, 2018. Regional Director Nilo B. Tamoria, the new DENR XII RD from Rizal Province formally accepted the assignment in a symbolic rite administered by Secretary Cimatu. Tamoria replaced Reynulfo B. Juan who will be reassigned at DENR Region 1, Ilocos Region.
DENR XII Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for Operations Didaw B. Piang-Brahim introduced RD Tamoria as an innovative leader, strategist, output oriented, workaholic, and with unquestionable intelligence and competence. His expertise and knowledge in handling and leading the government affairs were highlighted by his previous assignments as supervising staff of Senators Tanada and Michael Defensor, Project Evaluation Officer at the Office of the President, Consultant of HUDCC, Director for Operations of NACETF, Director IV of Special Concerns Office of the DENR, DENR RED at Regions 4A and NCR, Director IV of Office of the Secretary of the DENR and recently as Director of Special Affairs Office of the DENR.
Officials who came to Koronadal City to witness the ceremony were Ernesto D. Adobo, Jr., Undersecretary for Administration, Finance, Human Resource, Information Systems, Legal, Legislative Affairs and Anti-Corruption; Mario F. Chan, Head Executive Assistant; MGB Assistant Director Danilo U. Uykieng, Rolando R. Castro, Director of Human Resource Development Service; MGB and EMB Region XII Directors, Director Datu Tungko M. Saikol, PENROs and CENROs of Region XII, and DENR XII rank and file employees. Tamora is 14th regional director of the DENR XII.
CIPI CONDUCTS STAGE 1 AUDIT ON MGB XII’S IMS

The Certification International Philippines, Inc. (CIPI), a reputable certifying body and an affiliate of a British company Certification International U.K. Ltd. conducts Stage 1 audit to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region XII on January 16-17, 2017. This is to assess the readiness of the management system of the office to the Stage 2 audit.
MGBXII aims for ISO certification covering the integration of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015) and Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS 18001:2007) into the present Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015) for better delivery of services to its customers with due regard to the promotion of environmental protection and personnel safety. The IMS is also aimed to capacitate the field personnel on mining environmental audits and to focus on the quality, health and safety management in the workplace as emphasized by the OIC-Office of the Regional Director Efren B. Carido.
Engrs. Joselito C. Soler and Sybil C. Paden, team leader and member respectively of the CIPI audited the effectiveness of the provision of geosciences , mine management, mine safety environment and social development, and finance and administrative services of MGB XII. Similarly, they look into the adequacy, suitability, and the effectiveness of the IMS against the requirements of the three ISO standards. Under the IMS approach, it is the responsibility of the MGBXII to ensure that its operations are carried out in a safe and productive manner, reducing the potential negative impacts to people, property or environment and satisfying the needs of customers.
As a result of the 2-day audit, the external auditor’s declared the readiness of MGB XII for the stage 2 audit with some significant observation and no non-conformity.
REGIONAL MULTI-STAKEHOLDERS TEAM CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT OF MINING COMPANIES

The Multi-Stakeholders Team (MST) held its biennial meeting on December 6, 2017 at Biarong Resto, Koronadal City. This aims to review the performance of existing mining operations based on the guidelines and parameters set forth in the mining contract and in the pertinent or applicable laws, rules and regulations such as the Mining Act of 1995, EO 79 and the Labor Code. It includes compliance of environmental standards, reportorial requirements, terms and conditions of the mining permit/contract and field verification, among others.
Engr. Efren B. Carido, Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (OIC-ORD) expressed in the welcome address his gratefulness to the representatives of the Province of South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat and the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for their participation. He stressed that the review is mandated by Executive Order 79 as one of the policy reforms in the mining sector. He likewise informed that MGB Memorandum Circular No. 2013-03 was issued afterwards to include the representatives of various government agencies in order to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the mining companies within the region and come up with recommendations to the findings of MGB XII.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII conducts various Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activity campaigns to promote its programs and services on the Mineral Resources Development and Geosciences.
One of the recent IEC conducted was during the ‘Duterte Legacy: Barangayanihan Caravan’ in Region XII. It is said to be a collaboration with government agencies, as well as volunteers from the Global Coalition of Advocacy Support Groups and Force Multipliers. The campaign aims to inform the public about the government’s programs, policies, accomplishments, and efforts to bring about real change to the lives of the Filipino people by showcasing real stories from the beneficiaries in their respective localities of the administration’s landmark policies and programs.

To raise awareness on the protection and conservation of our environment particularly the water resources, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII participated in the simultaneous regionwide coastal clean-up in celebration of the Month of the Ocean (MOO) 2022 with the theme “Protect and Restore Ecosystems and Biodiversity” on May 18, 2022 in Brgy. Kawas, Province of Sarangani.
The activity was led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XII together with the various National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, and other stakeholders in Region XII.
