MGB XII INTENSIFIES IEC CAMPAIGNS

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII conducts various Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activity campaigns to promote its programs and services on the Mineral Resources Development and Geosciences.
One of the recent IEC conducted was during the ‘Duterte Legacy: Barangayanihan Caravan’ in Region XII. It is said to be a collaboration with government agencies, as well as volunteers from the Global Coalition of Advocacy Support Groups and Force Multipliers. The campaign aims to inform the public about the government’s programs, policies, accomplishments, and efforts to bring about real change to the lives of the Filipino people by showcasing real stories from the beneficiaries in their respective localities of the administration’s landmark policies and programs.
MGB XII JOINS REGIONWIDE COASTAL CLEAN-UP

To raise awareness on the protection and conservation of our environment particularly the water resources, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII participated in the simultaneous regionwide coastal clean-up in celebration of the Month of the Ocean (MOO) 2022 with the theme “Protect and Restore Ecosystems and Biodiversity” on May 18, 2022 in Brgy. Kawas, Province of Sarangani.
The activity was led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XII together with the various National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, and other stakeholders in Region XII.
GEOHAZARD ADVISORY SYNOPSIS: INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE (ITCZ) AFFECTING MINDANAO.

Based on the Daily Weather Forecast from PAGASA issued at 4:00AM of May 14, 2022, SOCCSKSARGEN will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to ITCZ. Severe thunderstorms may trigger landslides in elevated and mountainous areas and wide-spread flooding along low-lying areas adjacent to river systems. Flash floods are also possible along hilly to mountainous areas with narrow streams and rivers. Low-lying coastal municipalities and barangays within the region may experience inundation due to light to moderate southeast to south winds with slight to moderate (0.6 to 1.2 meters) wave heights.
This Office encourages the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices (LDRRMOs) in the region to refer to the MGB-XII geohazard maps and information in identifying safe areas for evacuation and appropriate evacuation routes. Utilization of these maps and data to properly inform residents living in geologically hazardous areas to take precautionary measures is highly encouraged.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office (MGB) XII conducted a blended Stakeholders’ Forum entitled “Know Mine, Know Life: Unearthing the Stigma on Responsible Mining” on June 24, 2022 held in Cinco Ninas, Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
The Forum was attended by stakeholders through On-site and via Zoom platform. It includes National Government Agencies (NGAs) in Region XII, Mining Companies from Large Scale Mining Companies, Small-Scale Mining Companies and the Industrial Sand and Gravel Permitees, Religious Sector, Academe, and the Media.
The Forum was aimed to raise awareness of MGB stakeholders on the mandates, programs, and services of the Bureau. It forged a common understanding on the standards of Responsible Mining. It identified common priorities, actions, and modalities for partnerships and collaboration and acknowledged the stand of the stakeholders on certain prevalent issues.

The National Archives of the Philippines conducted a seminar workshop on Basic Records and Archives Management (BRAM) to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII personnel on June 21-23, 2022 via Zoom platform.
NAP is an attached agency of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. It is the agency mandated to collect, store, preserve and make available archival records pertaining to the history and development of the country.
At least 45 MGB XII employees actively participated in the lectures and open forum where basic principles and standards on records appraisal, records filing, records inventory, records retention, and disposition were discussed by the speakers.

In line with the 35th Anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month with a theme “Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo”, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XII together with DENR XII showcased programs, services and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to various stakeholders on June 8-24, 2022, in the Mall of Centerpoint, Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
A total of 350 IEC materials of #MineResponsibility was distributed during the event. Geohazard Maps of all the provinces and Groundwater Availability Maps were also given to institutions and National Government Agencies (NGAs) who availed the distribution of the maps.

In celebration of the 35th Founding Anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Mines and Geosciences XII participated in the DENR XII Larong Pinoy 2022 on June 13-17, 2022 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
The battle of physical endurance was played by MGB XII personnel together with the Regional Office, Environment Management Bureau XII and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO). Some of the larong pinoy includes hampas palayok, luksong lubid, patintero, mario went to town, pinoy henyo, sack race, kadang-kadang, and hula hoop. The battle of the brains were competed by the Environment and Natural Resources Academy (ENRA) graduates through a Quiz Bee.
